Note to self

I'll have to go into it another time, but .... avoid the Capitol Police. I was in a group that got "kicked out" of the state capotil tday because we didn't have permission to do a scavenger hunt. We've never needed permission before, the governor's office was fine with it, I wasn't one of the coordinators. GAAAAAAAHHHHHHH. I'll go into the whole story another time.

Marathon Week

Yay! THe marathon week is over. No not a running marathon, but a week without rest. It all started last Friday morning with the 3 day training. Finish that and come home for the next day to be running around town taking care of appointments and getting things needed for the week. Despite Tuesay being a holiday, I was still on the go helping a friend. Wednesday was spent at a seminary at a state conference with NAMI. Yesterday was Keep The Promise's (KTP's) Basic Legislative Advocacy Training in Hartford. Today was in Hartford and Middletown at a corprate breakfast and a CTN/MRO meeting. Finally I get to breathe. I'm not complaining I love doing all this. I just need a break.

Spreading Yarn Wings??

Maybe I’ve cost it…maybe I haven’t. I do know I’ve been knitting fr 3 years though. I’ve also attenpted to learn to crochet the same number of times in those years. Well, I’m off for another shot. I’m wondering if I’ve lost it because I have my hands in so many things. Hobbies for example. Besides knitting, I:

Make fused glass jewelery

Maked stained glass

Paint pottery

Know how to pour pottery

Spin using a drop spindle

Have access to a spinning wheel and make use of it

Draw

Sew

I also volunteer for many things. I think tis is everything:

with my local NAMI (Just volunteered to take an affiliate level board position)

with NAMI statewide I’m on one of their Committees

work with Keep The Promise (part of NAMI-CT)

on the Community Advisory Board at the Local Mental Health Authority I’m their Interim President

Work tirelessly for Self Injury Awareness holding an informational fair yearly

I’m helping get a Warmline (peer support line) up and running

attend trainings numerous times a month (at leat 4 this month and 1 is a 3 day long training)

Volunteer to help a frien out 2 hours a week

and 2 statewide coalitions

Now I want to add crochetin to it. I have to have lost it.

Bad Blogger
I admit, I’ve been a very bad blogger. Abandoning it and you for 4 months. I’m sorry (rips back 4 perfectly good complicated rows of knitting as punishment……..It’s a knitter’s thing).

Things have been busy here. First of all tackling computer issues. One dies and then had to get the other running. Then came my roommate having major surgery. Then moving into a 2 bedroom apartment using a car. No truck, no U-haul, just a car. Thankfully it was to the next building. That took a week. Yes a week to move my roommates apartment and get all my stuff out of storage. Oh and the 4 cats.

Oh and the SIAD fair. Robbyn and I pulled that off too. GAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH. It was great though. We’ll be taking it on the road now.

Once that all got settled, it was time for all the meetings to heat up. Our meetings are like alphabet soup. KTP, CTN/MRO, CAB, NAMI, SnB. Then one of those has 2 other meetings and one other has another meeting. I’ve also been appointed Vice president of one.

All through this though I’ve been knitting away. I don’t have pics though because this comp doesn’t cooperate with pics that well.

That’s all for now.

Yarn Fumes
The LYS was having a SALE and trunk show last weekend, and I got to hit it. YES!!! I got $80.00 worth of yarn for $40.00. It wasw completely awesome. Yarn pr0n will be coming withing a week. It was 8 skeins of yarn though.

I even got to educate my roommate too. She’s had an interesting few months. From learning various knitting language “Frogged,” to “The Yarn just doesn’t want to be that,” to who knows what inbetween. As a result, it did not surprise her in the least when she picked up a skein that she liked (she’s a non-knitter), asked me what it could be made in to, and I walked over to the closest employee and asked her “How can I make this come alive.” To back up for a moment, I also fell in love with the yarn when my roommate showed it to me.

We have reached a stash containment issue though. I’ll be back with pics soon.

Amusing note to self for others to get a laugh out ofNote: When it comes to sock yarn (especially red Regia Galaxy), watch Jasmine (pictured below) like a hawk.

(Jasmine wearing a scarf made for my cousin)

I was knitting last night and cut one of the tails off the sock I was working on. The adorable little furball that thinks she is “Queen of the Roost” started playing with it. One second it’s here, the next second it’s gone. She ate the 2 or 3 feet of yarn. She’s never, nor have the other 3 cats done that before. My roommate and I have never heard of it happening. What cat eats yarn?!?!?! Leave it to the Queen of out apartment.

Busy, Busy
Alright, since right after Christmas “R,” my roomate, and I have been working on tthe Self Injury Awareness Day Informational Fair. Things have been going smother this year than last year. A lot hast to do with the fact that we know what we’re doing, I think.

Last year was our first year. As a result, we weren’t sure of what we were doing, or our footing. Plus we has tons of work to do (getting the info, getting it presentable and ready, taking care of the mailing, etc.). We had a place we just didn’t know where we stood (didn’t want to overstep our bounds) even though we knew everyone that works there. This year we’re prepared. Heck, the photocopying is about half done (a month before the fair). Also the invites are in the mail (also a month before the fair) Last year we were photocopying the day before the fair and invites went out the week before the fair.

I’m not saying it’s going to be smooth seas, but a lot smoother than last years. Overall, I’m looking forward to Feb 29th. Ok a day before Self-Injury Awareness Day (SIAD), bit SIAD is on a Saturday so we had to do the fair a day early.

Christmas Knitting

Ahhh…that lovely time of year again. I swear every year that I’ll start earlier and not feel so rushed. I started in August and aready have that rushed feeling. I’m only abut halfway through the list. Can I scream yet? I actually frogged 2 projects in the past 24 hours just so I could restart them as something faster.

Home Again

Ahhh. So nice to go away, yet nice to get home. I've been home for 3 hours. I was at a 3 day training for NAMI. My roommate an I along with 14 other people learned in 3 days how to teach a 10 week class. Overall the class we'll be teaching will be 30 hours long. We'll be in teams of 5. I'm looking forward to it. It was a great weekend. I learned a lot an immense amount of information, and enjoyed it.

Our teachers were wonderful and the rest of our classmates were so nice to be around. I got to know so many new people.

Off to bed now to catch up on some sleep. It's not oging to be a quiet week this week either. No rest for the weary until .... I don't know when. whe the weekend comes my romommates son will be here visiting. Mid-week I have an allday conference and an all day training the next day. Both an hour away. WHen am I going to get back to my knitting group?
